Dmitry Romanov

Artist and researcher of textiles. Graduated in Design from the Stroganov Moscow State Academy of Design and Applied Arts, and completed a master's degree and doctoral studies at the Stieglitz St Petersburg Academy of Art and Design, where he now teaches in the department of artistic textiles.
In his practice Dmitry experiments with textile techniques built on the interlacing, plaiting and printing of fibre. Metal wire holds a particular place in his work — a material that combines the pliancy of textile with the structural properties of metal.
Working with wire as a "metal thread", he explores new possibilities of form-making, producing objects on the border of textile, sculpture and the decorative arts. Interlacing, rhythm, structure and texture are his principal means of expression.
His practice is directed at widening the boundaries of traditional textile and at finding new plastic solutions in the dialogue between craft technique and contemporary material.
